If you are reading this I am already beach bound, I might actually already be sitting on the beach. We are spending our final New Year’s Eve in Mexico the way that we have spent every other New Year’s Eve in Mexico, on the beach in Tulum. This time I am a bit bigger and slower, but I am hoping that won’t be a problem since I don’t plan on moving much anyway. My beach reads are downloaded and the asos maternity swim suit is packed.  See you in the new year!

Fall Style

Fall 2012



I’ve been looking for something new to inspire my fall theme, but I keep coming back to my old fall favorites - leather and knits, skulls and gold. I guess having a uniform does make things a bit easier. I am coveting these Pucci leather pants right now; and while I probably won’t spring for the luxe version, I am on the lookout for a less spendy pair to get me through fall. Zara slippers and a cable knit sweater tone down the pants. Finally, a statement cocktail ring and glowing skin finish off the perfect fall look.

What do you think? Am I too predictable?

Oaxacan Vacation Style



Oaxacan Vacation

For the first half of our vacation we have returned to Oaxaca to see the Guelaguetza festival [we have tickets for the show this afternoon!] and to do some shopping for things we wish we had bought last time. Other than that, the only thing on the agenda is sleeping in, relaxing and enjoying lots of Oaxacan chocolate. The weather is gorgeous and the city is full of life - just look at this picture from last night. Fingers crossed that the weather holds out for the show this afternoon. Here is what is in my suitcase, in addition to an umbrella and sunscreen, of course.



  1. I can’t explain why, but I’ve been eyeing this sweatshirt for a while and finally broke down and bought it. Now that it is the rainy season in Mexico I will have plenty of opportunity to wear it, starting now!  
  2. Aren’t these great earrings for travel? They are simple so they go with everything and so inexpensive that if you lose one it’s not the end of the world. I don’t usually travel with a lot of jewelry, but I don’t like to have bare ears so these are perfect.
  3. A crossbody bag is the only way to go if you are going to be walking around town all day. No more tired crampy back from lugging everything you own in a shoulder bag!
  4. I always pack a stack of cotton dresses for travel around Mexico, they are cool and comfortable but you don’t look like a total bum. I figured if I love my chambray shirts so much, why not a chambray dress?
  5. I am obsessed with everything about Mara Hoffman’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, including these amazing serape shorts. que bonitos!

BRIGHT IDEA

I figured it was about time for a Spring theme, no? Have you noticed the three things that show up in almost every single one of my style posts? 



1. a denim or chambray shirt
2. a striped shirt
3. minnetonka moccasins



I guess there is nothing wrong with having a uniform. This spring I am all about adding in the NEON!  I love it paired with neutrals and I love a bright little pair of shorts. I am also indulging in neon pink manicures when I don’t have client meetings and will be rewarding myself after my half-marathon next month with this little guy.



I hope it’s a bright season for you too - keep an eye out for me in Mexico City and DC, you won’t be able to miss me.

on the beach in Oaxaca



Friends, I feel like February has chewed me up and spit me out [and I’m not even done with my work travel for the month].  I’ve been on the road from DC to Monterey to San Francisco to Chicago to Miami and back to Mexico City and, as a result, this little blog has been quiet.  Fortunately, my loving husband has planned us a little getaway to Oaxaca.  We have more trips to Oaxaca planned this year, hopefully one during la guelaguetza, but this time we are skipping the city and hitting the beach.  Click through the polyvore above to see what I’ve packed.  I intend on taking pictures with a camera that isn’t my iphone, reading this book, running, eating fish and sleeping in.  And as a bonus, you have my recap of our trip to look forward to in the next week or so.  What are you doing this weekend?
