Babymoon Redux

I never got around to posting photos from our New Year’s trip to Tulum, mostly because it was only a few days after we returned that bebé was born. [note to self: next time around don’t cut it so close with the travel during pregnancy]

Looking back, that trip was a dream. I was so sad as we drove off, knowing that I would go back but it would never be as carefree again.

This is pretty much what our weekend looked like, plus some tennis, running and college basketball. This time of year I especially love living in Mexico. Will be back to more substantive posting soon - hope everyone’s weekend was wonderful!

my funny valentine

When I was a kid my mom always went out of her way to give us little Valentine’s Day surprises - nothing fancy, just a few goodies that made the day special. That is probably why I don’t think of Valentine’s Day as a super romantic mushy holiday, but as a holiday to do something nice for friends and family.

In that spirit, I thought I would round up a few goodies I would love to be surprised with this year.

Hi, there.

Our Valentine’s Day baby surprised us a few weeks ago - turns out he wanted to be a New Year’s baby. Needless to say, we’ve been a little bit distracted over here. We’ve had family visiting and helping out with everything, which has been so nice. And now we are all on our own with no net, which is also sort of nice. We took a little jaunt to the pyramids this week and seem to be back in action. We should be back to our traveling ways with bebe as soon as we get the myriad birth certificate and passport issues sorted out for our little dual citizen. Until then, we will have lots of updates from Mexico City!

Five Things

I’m not going to lie - this first full week back to work after the holidays has not been easy. Add to that the fact that I am just getting bigger and slower every day, and I am not feeling the burst of energy I usually feel at the beginning of a new year. But I’m going to try and pick it up over the next few weeks, since they are likely my last productive weeks for a while…here are five things for the weekend:
  1. I’m a little late with this one, but I am still working on my resolutions for 2013. I feel like taking extra time to really think through what is achievable and prioritize is better than a laundry list, so stay tuned for resolutions in the next week.
  2. Ever since we returned to Mexico City last week I have been missing Tulum something fierce. While we were enjoying New Year’s Eve dinner at everyone’s favorite restaurant in Tulum, Posada Margherita, we learned about their new outpost in NYC called Circolo.  It gives me something to look forward to when we return to the East Coast and visit friends in the city, and if you are lucky enough to be in NYC this weekend, you should definitely cheke lo.
  3. On a sadder note, all week my twitter feed has been full of stories about alleged wild dog maulings in a Mexico City park. I am just as confused as everyone else about whether or not a bunch of strays could have killed 5 people, but I do know that the pictures of the street dogs the police have rounded up in response all remind me of my sweet little Mexican street dog Mila.
  4. 2013 brings with it much change in my life, including my departure from Mexico this summer after almost three years [sniff, sniff]. I’ve been pretty sad about the idea of leaving Mexico for a while now, but am trying to channel that into something productive and am working on my Mexico bucket list. So I am asking for your help - expats and Mexico lovers, what should I be sure not to miss before I leave?
  5. Did I mention I miss Tulum

Feliz Año

Holiday Outfit Series New Years Eve

If you are reading this I am already beach bound, I might actually already be sitting on the beach. We are spending our final New Year’s Eve in Mexico the way that we have spent every other New Year’s Eve in Mexico, on the beach in Tulum. This time I am a bit bigger and slower, but I am hoping that won’t be a problem since I don’t plan on moving much anyway. My beach reads are downloaded and the asos maternity swim suit is packed.  See you in the new year!

I hope everyone had a joyful Christmas. This is what Christmas has looked like in Mexico City…

Holiday Outfit Series 2012: Christmas Eve Dinner

We are in the home stretch! If you are like me you are tired, crashing to the end of the last work week before Christmas, barely finishing shopping for gifts, and trying to find the time to either pack for travel or prepare for house guests.

A Night to Remember

A couple of weeks ago we went to see the Ballet Folklórico by Amalia Hernandez at the Castillo de Chapultepec. I had been buzzing with excitement about it on twitter and here on the blog, but in reality I had no idea what to expect. Well, I am happy to report that it was well worth all of my buzzing.
